Twitter is often home to the exchange of information, memes, and in-house jokes; but April Fool’s Day caused an extra influx of laughter, as these five instances showcased the fun and games behind some baseless, humorous clickbait tactics.

5. Pittsburgh Steelers prank fans with rapper Snoop Dogg “agreeing to terms” as a wide receiver on the team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers joked with fans about rapper Snoop Dogg being welcomed to their team as a wide receiver with a commitment graphic. Using the rapper’s government name, Calvin Broadus Jr., and a picture of him in his youth, the tweet amassed over 50 thousand likes and leads to their website with his most popular meme.

Snoop Dogg himself also retweeted the joke and played into it.

4. Alamo Drafthouse NYC tricks audiences with an advanced screening of “Beau Is Afraid” rather than the expected “Midsommar Director’s Cut.”

Geared toward special fans of director Ari Aster – dubbed as “Ari Heads” –, the upscale theater chain originally released a block of tickets for the public, with a live Q&A meant to celebrate his upcoming film in collaboration with A24. The event was posted on their website, indicating the audience would see a 10-minute preview of “Beau Is Afraid.”

To the audience’s surprise, they did not see the movie listed on their tickets but got an “epic” surprise for the prankster holiday.

3. Pop Base reveals Taraji P. Henson joins the cast of “Abbott Elementary” as Janine’s mom in the Mother’s Day episode.

Pop Base, another account known for sharing pop culture and entertainment news, drew an immediate reaction after tweeting about Henson joining the cast. Users assumed it to be a prank similar to Pop Crave’s, including @itsmetacobella.

But to their surprise, only a minute later, the ABC show’s official account posted confirmation with a picture of Henson on set with the show’s creator, Quinta Brunson.

2. Pop Tingz jokes about the much anticipated Beyoncé “Renaissance” visuals.

Fans, admirers, and critics alike have been on the edge of their seats awaiting the visuals for the superstar’s seventh studio album. Pop Tingz, an account known for sharing the latest news in entertainment and media, was well aware of that fact.

As an April’s Fool joke, they posted the following graphic, seemingly announcing that the visuals had made an impromptu appearance on Netflix.

Many users had a feeling it was a joke, and way too good to be true. But for others, like @crispypunxi, it was the farthest thing from funny.

1. Youtuber DDG –  whose popularity has seen an increase since dating singer and “The Little Mermaid” star, Halle Bailey – tweets an ultrasound.

The Youtuber has an annual joke of posting an ultrasound on his social media to trick his followers. But being that this time around he’s in a relationship with Bailey – the assumed mother – the internet exploded.

His tweet captioned, “Can’t wait to be your dad,” amassed 44.7 thousand likes and over 10 million views.

Amid the couple’s ongoing relationship struggles with rumors of infidelity and separation, DDG has largely fallen out of grace with Bailey’s fans. Some users, including @queend236, found his joke tasteless and vapid for those very reasons, in addition to the backlash Bailey has faced since receiving her Disney role.
