Your Break Between Classes

Classes are No-Show for Registration: Students are Flustered

It’s the end of the semester and Howard students were in a frenzy since registration was chaotic once again.

This past year Howard University switched from Bison Web to Bison Hub, aiming for a faster and swift transition, however, technical difficulties are hindering this success.

BisonHub at Howard University offers a variety of benefits for students, faculty and staff, including accessible course planning, registration tools, academic plans and the ability to view and resolve holds and employee and manager self-service features.

Additionally, you can view tasks such as absences, payroll, hiring, budgeting and performance management on any mobile device at any time.

Cathy Hughes School of Communications Academic Advisor, Mikeshia Best, helped students navigate the new system and advised students to stay vigilant during registration.

“Check for classes every day,” she said, emphasizing that course availability can fluctuate, and students should be proactive in securing their spots before they fill up.

However, despite these tips, many students were still struggling to adapt to the new platform.

Freshman, Tyloria Winston echoed the frustration many others are feeling.

“I thought Bison Hub would be straightforward with the information that they provide us, but it’s honestly confusing,” Tyloria said.

Tyloria reflected a broader sentiment among students who hoped for a seamless transition but instead encountered a series of technical glitches and a lack of clear guidance, making the registration process more stressful than anticipated.

For seniors like Skyler Winston, the stakes are even higher. With graduation on the horizon, the pressure to secure the right classes is mounting.

“My primary focus is making sure I graduate next semester, which means I need the remaining classes to complete my degree. I need to register right away,” Skylar said.

For students in their final year, getting the right courses is essential to ensure they graduate on time, adding a layer of urgency to the registration process. But with BisonHub’s technical glitches and confusing interface, seniors are finding themselves at a disadvantage.

They are not only racing against the clock to secure the necessary courses but are also contending with a system that often seems more complicated than it needs to be. As a result, what should be a straightforward process is becoming a source of stress and uncertainty.

Meanwhile, other students are also focused on the logistics that come with preparing for graduation. Taniya Richardson, a senior, expressed concerns about more than just course registration.

“I’m going to be concerned about applying for graduation, yearbook photos and all those final steps,” she said. “There’s a lot to juggle, and I don’t want to miss anything.”

As graduation looms, students like Richardson are not only worried about their classes but also making sure they meet all the requirements for commencement. Between submitting their graduation applications, securing yearbook photos and ensuring all academic and financial holds are resolved, the registration stress is compounded into a long list of final tasks.

With these concerns on the horizon, students are hoping that the university can iron out the technical issues with BisonHub to ensure a smoother experience in future registration periods. For now, it’s clear that vigilance and persistence are the keys to successfully navigating the system—and securing the classes that are crucial for graduation.
