Robinhood Markets has launched a groundbreaking partnership with Howard University, marking its first collaboration with a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). The initiative introduces Robinhood’s “Money Drills” program to Howard’s student-athletes, focusing on critical financial topics like budgeting, saving and investing.

The program aims to equip student-athletes with the financial tools they need to navigate their careers both on and off the field. Given the economic challenges many athletes face post-retirement, the program’s emphasis on financial literacy is particularly timely in the era of NCAA rules allowing athletes to profit from their name, image and likeness (NIL) rights.

Kaiya Creek, a junior student-athlete on Howard’s women’s basketball team and a finance graduate student, shared her enthusiasm.

“This partnership empowers us not just to manage our finances but to inspire others in our community about financial literacy’s importance,” Creek Said

She emphasized the program’s unique opportunity to bridge classroom learning with real-world applications.

The program’s launch included workshops and events featuring notable speakers such as former NFL player Brandon Copeland and ex-NBA player Etan Thomas. These sessions provided practical advice and guidance on financial decision-making.

Mary Elizabeth Taylor, Robinhood’s Vice President of Global Government and External Affairs, highlighted the program’s broader impact.

“Money Drills are about more than financial education. It’s about empowering young people to build sustainable futures and break cycles of financial inequity,” Taylor said.

Another Howard student, economics major Daniel Porter said, “Learning financial skills from experts changes the game for us. It’s an opportunity to be prepared for the future.”

This collaboration adds Howard University to a growing list of schools participating in Money Drills, reinforcing Robinhood’s commitment to democratizing financial education.
