‘Still I Rise’ in Words and Images

A group of college students created the short film, “Twenty & Odd: 400 Years of African American Experience,” for Black History Month to honor “the history, resilience and beauty of the African-American experience” against a backdrop of historic parks and sites. The late poet laureate Maya Angelou narrates “Still I Rise.”

Matthew John of Ohio State University directed the film in conjunction with the National Park Service. The student producers were:

  • Christian Bacon, Howard University
  • Kayla Diallo, North Carolina A&T State University
  • Kayla Hall, Oakwood University
  • Ridasian Moore, Howard University
  • Subria Spencer, University of Alabama at Birmingham
  • Rhea Warren, George Mason University and Howard University.
