Earlier this year, Kyrie Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. The former Brooklyn Nets player was traded in exchange for two Dallas players and three future first and second-round picks. The trade comes as a shock to many, leaving NBA fans with an array of feelings as people deliberate on what this trade will mean.

The Dallas Mavericks were already on the list of teams to watch, prior to the trade, with the addition of all-star player, Luka Dončić. Dončić, who was a professional Slovenian basketball player, first joined the Mavericks in 2018 at the young age of 19.

Now, with the combination of both notable players, fans are anticipating the performance of the Mavericks in the upcoming season. Starting off, it seems that the Dončić -Irving duo struggled to pinpoint their compatibility on the court, going 1-4 in the first five games played together since the trade.

However, in their most recent game, the Dallas Mavericks won against the Philadelphia 76ers with a final score of 133-126. While it was a close game, Dončić and Irving contributed to more than half of the game-winning points with a combined total of 82 points and 18 assists.

With a great accomplishment by the two, Twitter users basked in celebration of the win. @HilltopNBA tweeted a video of the pair dominating the court stating that “Luka Dončić  and Kyrie Irving in the same backcourt is a cheat code.”

With all of the celebration on social media, there is no telling how fans will react over the rest of the season as the Dončić -Kyrie duo seem to strengthen their compatibility with each game under their belt.

Mekhi Abbott, a senior at Howard says that “I think Kyrie paired with Luka makes the Mavericks an offensive powerhouse. They’re definitely going to need to step their defensive intensity up in the postseason but they have playoff experience so that works in their favor.”
