The Vice President and President-Elect Are More Alike Than Not

As Kamala Harris prepared to become the 47th President of the United States, something that Americans might not know is that she has already held the position, albeit temporarily.

On Friday, Nov. 19th, 2021, Joe Biden underwent a colonoscopy, which many might know requires anesthesia, and during the hour and twenty-five minutes POTUS spent unconscious, Vice President Kamala Harris became the first woman to hold presidential power.

This little-known fact about the Vice President has happened before and is common practice amongst Presidents and their VPs if and when, for whatever reason, the commander-in-chief has to be unconscious for some time.

Vice President Dick Cheney was put in Presidential power twice while serving under the George W. Bush administration, once in 2002 and again in 2007. With the “reason for presidential disability” listed both times as ‘colonoscopy’ during his time in the Oval Office.

While Harris-Walz supporters patiently waited for the duo to make history on election night, what a lot of them aren’t privy to is that Vice President Harris would have technically made history twice, and this time, it wouldn’t have been temporary.

While the 85 minutes that Vice President Harris spent in office was uneventful, it marked a milestone in her storied career that most of her supporters were simply unaware of.

With that being said, the Vice President and her history-making run for office came to a close. Harris-Walz supporters have their pick of title for the democratic candidate for the Oval. Vice President, or Former Sitting President Kamala Harris.

Last Tuesday night, Americans cast their votes to support either the vice president or president-elect. However, what they may not have known is that both candidates had held the keys to the nuclear codes, not just former president Trump.
