BORN IN BLACK: An Eccentric Welcome to Spring Fashion

On Friday April 1, the highly anticipated fashion showcase dubbed “Born in Black” debuted, featuring Insignia MSA by Maya Avery and Godmuva Garments by Rickyah Blake. These two HU student-operated labels are known for their edgy fashions and punk influences.

When asked to identify the aesthetics of the show, the designers described sentiments of eccentrism and exclusivity. When arriving to the event space, attendees felt just that, as the setting was ambient and alluring. The city’s skyline lit up the runway on a charming rooftop in Northeast DC, as deep, raging music punctured the atmosphere. The intimate show was attended by some of the most recognized fashion creatives on campus, and left a lasting impression on all attendees. Maya and Rickyah set the season off right with this dystopian production that transported the audience to a new world!
